Click- Urali - cookware of the past

Cauldron or urali or varppu made with 70%copper and 30%tin is a broad based cooking vessel with beautifully and symmetrically carved on the sides. This is one of the largest cooking utensil which was used during ceremonial occasions for preparation of milk sweets without the fear of getting burnt.
The 'urali' in the picture belongs to my grandmother who used to make the very popular paal paayasam(kheer), thiratti paal(sweet made with wholemilk, something similar to kalakand) and halwa. I was so very fantasized by its gold tint, the carves, and the antiqueness. Now this vessel proudly sits in the living room of my house exhibiting its beauty to the admirers.
I am sending(the first picture) this to the CLICK: metal event by jugalbandi (J&B).

Sweet potato parathas with tomato onion chutney- kids recipes

sweet potato parathas I have never tried anything with sweet potatoes. These are widely available and eaten during the shivrathri in the month of feb or march. I was googling for a recipe with sweet potato and was surprised to find its culinary use all over the world. Sweet potato pie, cakes ....and indian food like gulab jamuns, koftas, kababs etc and many more..
Anyway, I decided to make simple stuffed paratha with them. It definitely tasted different. It had a sweet taste and by adding the regular spices, made it a little spicy too.
And for the side dish I usually prefer curd for any parathas. But this tomato onion chutney is a good combination too.

for stuffing
Sweet potatoes- 3-4
Turmeric powder-1tsp
garam masala-1tsp
chilly powder-1tsp
for dough
Wheat flour- 5 t06tbsp
Salt- a pinch

For Stuffing preperation
Boil the sweet potatoes until they turn a little soft and grate them. Add turmeric powder, chilly powder, garam masala and salt. Mix them well.
For dough
Add the salt in the wheat flour. knead the flour into dough adding water and oil.Make balls of the dough.
Roll the flour into a circle with a rolling pin. Make a ball of the stuffing and keep in the centre of the circle. Seal it properly and again roll them in a circle, taking care of the stuffing not coming out. Heat them on the Tava putting little ghee on them.
Tomato onion chutney-
Onion- 1 chopped
green chilly-1

Easy bread rolls for potluck parties and get togethers

bread rolls I wanted to make bread rolls since a very long time , but always thought it involved lot of work and so was very lazy to try them. I was scared of the edges not getting sealed properly and the stuffing falling out and creating a big mess. But I gave it a try and this was the result.
This can be easily made for potlucks and get togethers. You can just prepare the bread and stuff them, keep them refrigerated and fry it when you want.
White Bread slices- 8 to 10
potato- 1 big cooked and mashed
ginger garlic paste - 1tsp
turmeric powder - 1tsp
Red chilly powder - 1tsp
Garam masala - 2tsp
Coriander powder - 2tsp
Salt -According to taste
Oil- 1tbsp and for deep frying.

Heat oil in a pan. Add the ginger garlic paste and then the onions. Saute till the onion turns translucent. Add turmeric powder, chilly powder, coriander powder, garam masala, salt and then mix the mashed potato.(I also added some frozen vegetables containing pieces of carrot, green peas and corn).
Dip the bread slices in water.Squeeze out the water by pressing them between your palm. Keep the potato stuffing on one end and roll the slice and seal the edges. Repeat the process for all the slices. Deep fry the rolls till they get golden brown in colour.
Serve with tomato ketchup.
I am sending this to Sia's Ode to potato.
Bread rolls are indeed easy and I can make it anytime!!!
