Whole masoor dal chundal recipe- Navaratri recipes

     Navaratri is around the corner and am sure you all have started the preperations on the menu, golu decoration ,dandia etc. I have also compiled a post on navaratri recipes which you can find it  here
     Coming to today's post, chundal is made with lentils especially during navaratri in Tamilnadu.
I often use whole masoor dal in my cooking. It is very healthy and is a rich source of iron. I made a chundal with it recently and decided to blog it now as people make it a point to make various chundal on each day for nine days of navaratri. I hope you do try it this time.

Whole masoor dal with skin(saboot masoor)- 1 cup
Mustard seeds-1tsp
Udid dal-1tsp
Channa dal-1tsp
Dried red chillies-3-4
Curry leaves- few leaves
Salt to taste
Asafoetida- a pinch
Grated coconut-1tbsp

Soak the masoor dal in water for about 2 hours. Cook in a pressure cooker till its soft , but should not turn mushy. Drain out the water completely.
Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, udid dal, channa dal,dried red chillies,asafoetida and curry leaves in this order.
When it crackles, add the cooked masoor dal along with some salt and mix well.
Add the grated coconut. Mix and saute for 4-5 minutes.Remove from flame.
You can serve this as a snack or salad, or as a sidedish for chapatis or some rice.
