Carrot apple juice

Though I would prefer to eat fruits as it is,sometimes its just nice to combine a few fruits together which go well with each other to create another interesting taste. Thats what happened when I had a large stock of carrots and apples and I decided to make this one. As the apples were really sweet, it required very less sugar. It also gave an immense satisfaction of sneeking in some raw carrots which otherwise is not so frequently consumed as a salad at my place!!

Carrot Cake

I did not bake anything for almost a year and now I have a huge number of bookmarked recipes in my list. I have been longing to bake the classic carrot cake and looking for a good recipe. As I am not too keen in using butter for my cakes, I decided to follow the recipe in my mini cookbook.I really loved the flavour of the spices added to this cake. The cake was very spongy, light and very moist. The usual cream cheese frosting would have been really good, which I plan to do the next time I bake this…

Baked Veg. Lasagna- – S/S pictures

We had tasted lasagna for the first time during our trip to Bintan where we had very little vegetarian options. But then enjoyed the vegetarian lasagna to the core. After that we had this during couple of occasions and I was looking forward to try this at home. I had got these lasagna sheets from Giants supermarket long time ago. A recipe using non vegetarian sauce was mentioned on the box and hence I was looking for a vegetarian recipe. I found one in Tarla Dalal ‘s book and the recipe seemed to be a easy one. I have made…

Vegetable paratha

This is a great food for kids and kids really enjoy having this hot maybe along with some tomato ketchup. You can add your choice of vegetables to the paratas taking care how you process it before you stuff into the paratas. You can use shredded cabbage or grated cauliflower along with cooked and mashed peas and paneer. I sometimes cook most of the vegetables in the cooker, and add the appropriate spices before stuffing them into the paratas. Just ensure that the stuffing is dry so that you don’t end up with messy paratas!!Paratas do make a very filling…

Raagi/finger millet soup

Raagi or finger millet is the best natural source of iron and hence good for building haemoglobin. I was also advised by the doctor to take raagi as it is a very rich and readily available source of iron. I used to take a porridge made of raagi, milk and sugar almost everyday and got quite bored of the taste. But then I now occasionally enjoy this quick soup with or without the vegetables. You can also just omit the vegetables, add yogurt to the cooked raagi soup for a different taste. Source- Adige mane ruchi(with some changes)

Wheat berry and lentil clear soup

When my grandmom made the popular tirunelveli halwa for creative saga during my trip to India, she also gave me a bag of wheat berries asking me to try making it again when I go back to Singapore. But unfortunately that never happened. The bag was lying in a corner of my freezer begging to be used. So now when the blogging marathon is happening, the idea of making soup with it struck me as I am trying to use unusual and new ingredients for the soup to make the event more meaningful and interesting.I browsed the net to see…

Leek and carrot soup

The traditional leek and potato soup is a popular recipe with the leeks. But as I had just paired potato and watercress here, I decided to go for a different combination. Thus this soup with leek and carrots. I actually loved the slight pungent smell of leeks when cooking and I knew the soup was going to be spicy and delicious and certainly healthy with the carrots. I loved the addition of white pepper for the mild heat. On the whole , we loved the simple and hearty soup. Do check out what my marathon buddies have cooked today- Diabetes…

kadamba Sadam/kadambam sadam-Using brown rice

This rice variety was totally new to me when I saw them In many different blogs and realised that it was never prepared in our homes. So I hopped into different blogs to know its meaning.I would summarise about what I read for people like me who are not aware of it. According to Suganya – ‘Kadambam’ in Tamil refers to an assortment of similar things. It more commonly refers to a flower string which is a mixture of flowers like malli, marikozhundu, sampangi, davanam, kanakaambaram According to Srivalli- Kadambam in Tamil means a melody of different things put together….

Tawa pulao- Popular Mumbai street food

I was aware of this popular street food ,but had never attempted at home. First time, I had this at my sister’s college canteen and could not forget the delicious taste of it and thought that re-creating that kind of spicy flavour was not possible at home. When I browsed for the recipe, I was quite surprised to find the secret ingredient used here is pavbhaji masala. It certainly imparts a nice flavour and a typical street food spicy taste to the pulao. Since then , I have made this quite a few times at home and it was liked by…
