Vegetable Kurma- Version 2

A few days back, I had posted a mixed vegetable recipe and had mentioned that I try to make it slightly different each time. So todays post is a second version of how I make it. This one has a lovely flavour because of the freshly ground spice. Kurma is a south Indian speciality with coconut milk and spices. Its basically served with parota in the South. But it goes very well with cumin/jeera rice and chapatis/pooris too. My mom used to serve with toasted bread which was a good alternative too and made a yummy breakfast. She used to…

Vegetable Uthapam

Its more often nowadays, that I make idli /dosa batter , sounds tedious, but then you can be completely relaxed when you have the batter in hand. There are so many things which you can make with it without having to spend much of your precious time in the kitchen. So apart from the usual dosas and idlis , one of these days, I tried making the vegetable uttapam for breakfast. And the colourful beauties were enjoyed by all. You can use your choice of vegetables like cabbage or just sliced onions and green chillies. You can make this for…

I have so many other recipes, even a few cakes in my draft, but this one, when I made it yesterday and it came out really good, that I was quite eager to post it immediately, when the taste of it is still fresh in our minds!!! Actually I had the idea of trying this cake for my son who is a very picky eater, but I kept on postponing it for sometime. Last evening, all of a sudden my son wanted some cake. How to make Carrot halwa/pudding/gajar ka halwa — with condensed milk– Indian sweets and dessert recipe

Carrot halwa was one of the very first desserts I had learned to make from my mom. Her recipe was slightly different. I have made so many times by now that I have learned to perfect the recipe each time I make.I once made a huge quantity for a friends party and everyone loved it. Its a dessert with which you can impress your guests and its actually very easy to make as well. Its a little time consuming especially when it comes to grating the carrots, but its worth the time.

Vegetable Biryani- Restaurant style

I did not know the difference between pulao and biryani around two years back when I was learning to cook. Then I learned that, in biryani , the rice is cooked seperately and then mixed with the other ingredients and spices. The first biryani , I tried making was with chole/chickpeas, the recipe I adapted ,found here. Then I tried with the vegetables and came out really good. I followed the same recipe with some changes. Now I make this quite frequently. Its a little time consuming process, but worth all the efforts. It gives a typical restaurant effect. I usually…

Akki roti

I have now come to normal routine after a busy week followed by a busy weekend. First the Varalakshmi vratham , then avani avittam (sacred thread) . I made a typical south indian food for the avani avittam with sambar , rasam, kootu, curry, vadai, payasam. Unfortunately, I couldn’t take the photo as I was really tired with the preparations and I was in no mood to do it. However, we dressed up my son in a panchakatcham (dhoti ) and here’s the snap!!! Todays post is akki roti. This is a famous karnataka cuisine, which I learned from my…
