I am always on a lookout for new side dish recipes for chapatis. I make chapatis for dinner most of the time.Paneer is a favourite. I make paneer bhurji quite frequently and my son loves it. I found this recipe when I was searching for spinach recipes. So I decide to incorporate spinach in the paneer bhurji recipe. It was quite delicious and my son had his dose of greens with his favourite paneer. Its quite mildly spiced. I have reduced the fat content from the original recipe too. Recipe source- NDTV cooks Heat ghee in a pan. Add the…

Tomato chi bhaaji- Tomato side dish for chapatis– Maharashtrian style recipe

As I have mentioned in my previous posts that I have stayed in Maharahtra for several years. I have tasted almost every kind of vegetarian Maharahtrian food and even the various cuisine belonging to different regions of Maharashtra. I have always enjoyed it to the core. Some of the dishes are made quite regularly at my place, just like our staple food. One of them is this tomato subji. Thai green curry recipe- – Vegetarian Thai recipes

I have not really tried making Thai food at home.I have just eaten the pineapple fried rice in the food courts and during a trip to Thailand though always wanted to try it at home because of the flavours in it.. The ready made pastes I have seen in the markets contains shrimp etc. So I never ventured beyond this. Recently, I found a packet of ingredients for making the green curry paste in the supermarket. Pumpkin curry with coconut milk recipe | Side dish for chapatis or rice

Many people I met hate pumpkin as its quite sweet to taste. But I love this vegetable because no matter how spicy you make it, it tastes really good according to me. You can be quite generous with the green chillies you add because it gives an appropriate spiciness to the pumpkin. I had seen this recipe in a Sanjeev kapoor cooker show many years back. I had noted down the recipe and its very similar to the south Indianolan sans the lentils. I wouldn’t say this is the best dish with pumpkin but it tasted good. I served with some…

Soya chunks masala recipe– side dish for chapatis and pooris

When I tasted soya chunks in pulao for the first time, I hated it. I was hardly 10 years or so when my mom made it .After several years ,when I tasted again in a gravy, it was kind of okay and then had it a couple of times later. After coming to Singapore, this is so popular here and is often called as mock meat or vegetarian meat. Even in food courts, you find most of the non vegetarian dishes replaced with soya or toufu which is available as mock meat for vegetarians like us or even the few groups…

How to make Puri masala/ Poori kizhangu – Potato Sidedish recipe

I love the evening concept of tiffin coffee in Tamil nadu. The lunch is first meal of the day in most homes which is had as early as 10 in the morning. It is followed by a tiffin kaapi in the afternoon and then dinner in the night. This ritual was followed at my grandparents place in my native place and we children were forced to do so when we visited during the holidays. It was frustrating to have lunch in the morning when were used to breakfasts followed by lunch in the next couple of hours. But then I loved…

Dum arvi/arbi recipe – sidedish for chapatis

I made this couple of week back when I had bought some arbi. I usually make it in the south indian style. But this time as I wanted it for chapatis, I tried it this way. I almost used the same recipe which I had used to make dum aloo, but with a slight variation. It tasted delicious. Few more arbi recipes in this blog- 1. Arbi ajwaini 2. Seppangkizhangu/arbi roast. Murungakkai/ drumstick poricha kuzhumbu recipe

A couple of years back , I had some guests from Chennai. That was the first time, I cooked elaborate south indian meals everyday as they were not accustomed to rice, dal/rasam, curry/subji, chapatis etc which I cook on a everyday basis. I do make a complete tamil lunch twice or thrice a week. So that time , I used to be in a real confusion on what to cook everyday. But they were kind enough to suggest me menus, teach me new recipes or even cook some authentic dish. So murungakkai /drumstick poricha kuzhumbu was one of them. I…

Ennai kathrikkai curry – South indian recipe

My mom used to make this when we were kids. But somehow this was actually forgotten and I haven’t had this for years together. I always thought of making them whenever I buy the small brinjals and finally managed to make them during a weekend. We had it with some rice and tomato rasam. It was delicious!! Notes- I usually make it less spicy because of my son who doesn’t eat spicy food. So make it more spicy if you prefer that way.
