Chocolate orange cake with chocolate ganache- easy cake recipes

        This was the cake I made for the new year.But have taken a long time to post it here. I have always loved the chocolate and orange combo in cake. It tastes so divine. I had made a similar combination cake years ago and my friends had loved it too. So I knew it really works out well. So when I had all the ingredients, especially oranges as I usually dont buy them much, I decided to go ahead with this cake. My son had wanted a chocolate cake as always when I asked him what to bake for the new year. The cake was really delicious ,moist,spongy bursting with flavours and everyone at home loved it.

Thanks to my dad and sis who gifted me the blender during their visit here. The old one gave up a couple of months ago and I was looking forward to buy a new one. I used it for the first time and going to use it for more bakes in near future. Okay, and if you do try out this delicious recipe, I think you should , please refer the notes below for more ideas.

Chocolate orange cake with chocolate ganache- easy cake recipes Yum
  1. Preheat the oven to 180c.
  2. Line a cake tin with baking sheet and grease it.
  3. In a bowl, combine the white sugar and orange zest.
  4. Mix by rubbing the zest with sugar using your fingers.
  5. Now in a mixing bowl, combine the butter with both the sugar.
  6. Mix with a spatula /whisk or electric beater to mix it to a creamy mixture.
  7. Add the eggs and and again beat till the mixture is a little fluffy.
  8. Pour the 3/4th cup of orange juice and mix well.
  9. Combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and baking powder and mix with a spoon.
  10. Fold in the flour mixture into the liquis mixture and mix till well combined.
  11. Pour the batter in the prepared cake tin.
  12. Bake for 35 minutes till the cake is done.
  13. Insert a skewer or a knife in the center of the cake to check if the cake is done.
  14. Cool the cake for 15-20 minutes and then invert it on a plate.
  15. Allow the cake to cool completely.
  16. Poke small holes on the cake with a tooth pick.
  17. Pour the reserve 1/4th cup of orange juice with a spoon on the cake so that it absorbs the juice.
  18. I finally applied some chocolate ganache on the cake.
  19. Notes-
  20. 1. You can use white granulated sugar or brown sugar completely.
  21. 2. Use fresh orange juice preferably.
  22. 3. For the orange juice which you pour on the cake for moistness, if your juice is not sweet, you can dissolve a few teaspoons of sugar in it.
  23. 4. Orange zest is the orange portion of the orange (fruit)skin. Remove any traces of white portion.
  24. 5. I have used chocolate ganache for frosting. The recipe for it , you can see here.
  25. But you can also pour some orange glaze on the cake.
  26. For the glaze, dissolve around a cup of icing sugar or powdered sugar in 1/2 cup of orange juice. Mix well. Pour on the cooled cake.
