How to make couscous kesari – Couscous halwa recipe – Couscous recipes

      I had bought a packet of couscous recently.   Few days back, I had posted the couscous upma.With the remaining couscous, I made this kesari and it was quite delicious.Even my kids loved it. So I have found couscous quite versatile. I am going to buy more of this and try various dishes with it.


  When I bought couscous for the first time, I did not even know how its texture is and the method of its cooking.Now I have learnt that we can even use a mixture of different vegetables and spices to make delicious dishes with couscous. I am sure to post many other dishes with this one. So do keep visiting!!

Ingredients
  • 1 cup Couscous
  • 1/4 - 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp Ghee
  • 3 - 4 Cashews -broken
  • 1/2 tsp Cardamom powder
  • - optional strands Saffron / kesar -few

Ingredients
  • 1 cup Couscous
  • 1/4 - 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp Ghee
  • 3 - 4 Cashews -broken
  • 1/2 tsp Cardamom powder
  • - optional strands Saffron / kesar -few
Instructions
  1. Heat ghee in a pan.
  2. Add the cashews and saute till they are golden brown.
  3. Add the couscous and roast for a minute taking care it does not burn.
  4. Add cardamom powder and saffron if adding.
  5. Pour a glass of water.
  6. Allow the couscous to cook for 4-5 minutes.
  7. Add the sugar.
  8. Mix well.
  9. Stir till the mixture thickens.
  10. This will take around 5 minutes.
  11. You can add some ghee and mix well at this stage.
  12. Serve warm.
Recipe Notes

Notes-

I used 1/2 cup of fine granulated sugar. I found it sweeter for my taste. So adjust the quantity of sugar accordingly.

  2. I enjoy your blog. This recipe sounds good. I’m not quite sure what you mean by a glass of water. Exactly how much is that? In cups of ml or fluid ounces or something. Thanks.

    @Swanwalk- Sorry for not being too specific.In this case, Where I have used a standard 1 cup of couscous, I have used around 1 1/2 cup(same cup) of water.The quantity of water should be sufficient to cook the couscous till done.Thanks!
