How to make kollu thuvaiyal–horsegram chutney recipe

After the awareness of how healthy kollu or horsegram is , I have started exploring the possible recipes with it. I decided to make chutney with it as I had once tasted at a friends place years ago but had never bothered for the recipe. I decided to check the Internet for the recipe and found in several sites. So I decided to use my normal thuvayal/chutney recipe ,but added garlic for more taste. It was really delicious and went really well with rice for our dinner one day. Next day, I used the same chutney for dosa and that made a good combination too!!!

Ingredients-

Kollu/horsegram- 1 cup

Red chillies- 4-5 nos

Garlic cloves- 3-4 cloves

Sesame oil-1tsp

Salt to taste

Instructions
  1. Wash and soak the kollu in water overnight.
  2. Heat sesame oil in a pan.
  3. Add the dried red chillies and garlic.
  4. When garlic browns a little, add the kollu.
  5. Add salt and mix everything well.
  6. Cook for 4-5 minutes.
  7. Remove from flame.
  8. Add the tamarind and allow it to cool.
  9. Grind it to a smooth paste adding few drops of water.
  10. Add oil in a pan.
  11. Add the mustard seeds.
  12. Waits til it crackles.
  13. Add udid dal, hing and curry leaves.
  14. Add this to the ground paste. Mix well.
Recipe Notes

        I served with rice. 

You can serve with chapatis,dosas or idlis too.
