        I had never tasted this chutney before. My hubby has had it before and he asked me to make it as it is very tasty.I found the recipe in a few tamil cookbooks.This chutney has such a wonderful aroma. Even while making the chutney, the aroma was so tempting.

Ingredients

Curry leaves
2 cups
Ginger-small piece  chopped
1
Whole pepper
1tsp
Udid dal
1 tbsp
Dried red chillies
2-3 nos
Mustard seeds
1tsp
Sesame oil
1tbsp
Asafoetida
a pinch
Tamarind- small piece

Steps

  1. Remove the curry leaves from the stem.
  2. Wash them properly and pat dry them.
  3. Place the tamarind in a small cup(50-60ml) of hot water.
  4. Squeeze out the pulp and discard the rest.

  5. Heat oil in a pan.
  6. Add the mustard seeds
  7. When it crackles,add udid dal and asafoetida.

  8. Add dried red chillies and whole pepper.
  9. Saute for a minute.
  10. Remove them on a plate.

  11. In the same pan, add some ginger.
  12. Saute and add the curry leaves.
  13. Saute for 2-3 minutes till it wilts and softens slightly.

  14. Allow it to cool.
  15. Add the tamarind pulp.
  16. Grind it to a smooth paste.

  17. Serve with rice,chapatis,idlis or dosais.
  18. Store in a container.
  19. You can refrigerate for around 1-2 weeks.
