Kathirikai pitla , a cuisine from tamil nadu , is a nice side dish with rice and morkozhumbu( tamil version of kadi,though not exactly). But I just love it with simple rice and dal.

Brinjals- medium sized chopped in cubes
4 to 5 nos
Dried red chillies
5 to 6
Cooked tuvar dal
Salt- acc to tate
- Cook Brinjal in tamarind water along with turmeric powder and salt. Heat oil in another pan.Add red chillies,chana dal,tuvar dal,udid dal,coriander seeds,coconut(half the quantity). Stir for about 4 to 5 minutes.(do not allow them to turn very brown).Grind this mixture adding a little water.
- Heat oil in a pan.Add mustard seeds,asafoetida,curry leaves and peanuts. Then add the cooked brinjal and then the ground paste. Mix in the cooked tuvar dal. Stir some more grated coconut till they turn a little brown and add it to thicken the gravy further.
