Oats paniyaram recipe — Oats recipes

       I have never known paniyaram when I was in India.It was never made at our place though rarely something called appe was made. The iron appe pan was placed in the hot oil and the appe was cooked by deep frying. Later , when I came to Singapore, when we were invited to our friend’s place(the same friend where I had iced lemon tea for the first time), they served this dish and that was the first time I tasted this one. It was made with dosa batter. I loved the dish. Later my hubby’s friends who were bachelors also invited us and they served us paniyaram. So , let me tell you that this is such a easy dish and made in no time when you have the paniyaram pan. Even bachelors can make it.

Later, I bought the pan from Mustafa and have been making paniyaram at home. You can see the recipe for dosa batter paniyaram here.

I have also been trying some variations with this pan .Like when I dont have the dosa batter , I have used rava and maida to make instant ones.

My hubby of late has been asking me to make dishes using oats. However I do make oats dosa quite often. I also have oats dosa recipe in the blog.  I made almost the same batter for this paniyaram.

They really tasted so good and its so easy to make ,that I am going to make this more often maybe with slight variations.

  1. Combine the oats,rava,maida ,cornflour,red chilly powder ,salt and baking soda in a big bowl.
  2. Pour the curd into it.Mix and pour some water to make the batter of dosa consistency.
  3. Add the chopped onions, green chillies,ginger and curry leaves.
  4. Heat your seasoning pan. Add a tsp of oil. Add the mustard seeds,udud dal and channa dal.
  5. When it crackles, pour the seasoning into the batter. Mix well.
  6. Heat your paniyaaram pan. Pour few drops of oil in each cup.
  7. Pour some batter to a 3/4th level in each cup.
  8. Allow it to cook in the bottom.
  9. If its a non stick pan, then it will easily come out when you use the paniyaram spatula.
  10. Flip and cook on the other side.
  11. Remove with the spatula in your serving bowls.
  12. Repeat the same for rest of the batter.
Recipe Notes

Serve hot with some chutney . I served with onion tomato chutney.


You can use buttermilk instead of curd.

Try adding grated carrots.
