Pachai Payaru / Green Moong Sweet Chundal-Navaratri Recipe

Instructions:

  1. Soak the green moong beans in water for 6-8 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain the water and rinse the beans.
  3. In a pressure cooker, add the soaked beans and enough water to cover them. Add a pinch of salt and pressure cook for 2-3 whistles or until the beans are soft.
  4. Once the pressure is released, open the cooker and drain any excess water.
  5. In a pan, heat the ghee over medium heat.
  6. Add the cooked green moong beans and grated jaggery. Mix well.
  7. Cook the mixture for 5-7 minutes, stirring continuously, until the jaggery melts and coats the beans.
  8. Add the grated coconut and cardamom powder. Mix well.
  9. Cook the mixture for another 2-3 minutes until the coconut is toasted.
  10. Remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture cool.
  11. Serve the Pachai Payaru Sweet Chundal as a prasad (offering) during Navaratri.
