Simple chocolate cake with white roses frosting — Simple Birthday or anniversary cake recipes – Simple frosting ideas

This simple but delicious recipe was uploaded to the original Creative Saga website by the original owner of the website, Somya.

In Somya’s own words:

There was a time when I used to bake a lot. I just needed a tiny excuse to bake at the drop of a hat.During the  birthdays or anniversaries, I would plan well in advance. But this was not the case for the past two years. I was dying to bake during each occasion. I never managed to do so, and the days just passed by.

I baked the white chocolate pound cake few days ago. That gave me an inspiration to bake more goodies in future. One fine day, when I was going through the photos in foodgawker, My eyes fell on a rose cake. Then I tried finding the rose frosting videos on youtube. I saw a few such videos. I saw the videos again and again. Then I felt that this frosting was not really that complicated and I decided to do this cake on my hubby’s birthday.

I began seeing the cakes in my dreams and lost my sleep for a few nights until the day arrived. I had readymade buttercream frosting. I filled the icing bag (with the rosette nozzle) with the icing. I decided on a very simple chocolate cake as I really did not want to complicate things in the very little time I had. This was the same cake  I made for a bloggers meet couple of years ago, but never managed to post the recipe here.

I cooled and crumbcoated the cake and left for a friends home. Back of my mind, I was waiting to get home and frost the cake. After almost 4-5 hours, I went ahead with the frosting with butterflies in my stomach.

I watched the video for the umpteenth time before starting my job. It took just around 20 minutes to finish the frosting. I managed to do a fairly good job. I wont say its the best when you compare the ones in the videos. But I was satisfied with it and I am sure I can do a better job next time.

I immediately whatsapped the photo of the cake to my sis and received a good compliment. My hubby, the birthday boy loved it too. He said I should have used rose pink colour. So thats going to be next time. I am surely going to use this frosting in my future cakes as it is really easy and takes less time too. Do let me know how you like it!!”

Recipe Notes

Pour the batter in a well greased and floured 7 or 8″cake tin.

Bake the cake at 180c for 35-40 minutes or till a skewer inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.

Cool the cake well for around 10-15 minutes. Invert the tin to remove the cake from the tin on a plate.

Use a sharp knife to even the cake if it has a dome or other uneven surfaces.

Crumb coat the cake with the buttercream icing(forgot to take the crumb coated cake picture). Leave it for sometime, maybe in the refrigerator.

Use a rosette nozzle. Fill the icing bag with the buttercream icing and make roses on the cake. Sprinkle edible silver balls on it.
